Tucson, AZ -- Pima Community College Music presents a guest recital featuring the male quartet a cappella group Cantores from Tucson. Members include PCC music faculty Dr. Jonathan Ng, counter-tenor and tenor; Jose "Chach" Snook, counter-tenor and tenor; Vincent Jackson, tenor; and Darryl King, baritone. The accompanist is Suzanne Eanes Thompson.

 

The program highlights different styles of choral music including folk song, popular, sacred and Broadway musical. Popular selections include "Scarborough Fair" by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel; two barbershop quartets—"Good-Night, Ladies" and "Row, Row, Row;" and "Vive L'Amour" arr. by A. Parker and R. Shaw. The sacred music selections include "Rise up, O Men of God" arranged by K. Jennings, "He" by J. Richards, and "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name" by T. Fettke. Favorite Broadway musical selections performed are "Somewhere" and "Tonight" from West Side Story and "Get Me to the Church On Time" from My Fair Lady.

 

Thompson, piano, has performed as a harpsichordist with baroque ensembles, piano accompanist with vocalists and instrumentalists, and sang in choirs for large productions (Berlioz's Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony). While working as an embassy attaché in the Soviet Union, she performed at Spaso House, the residence of the U.S. Ambassador. As an interpreter at the Votkinsk Portal Monitoring Facility, in Russia, she staged two-piano concerts with a Russian colleague.  She is the rehearsal accompanist with the Arizona Choral Society, and an assistant professor of Practice in the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies at the University of Arizona. 

King, baritone, is the former president of the Arizona Choral Society and sings with various groups locally. He taught at the University of Arizona's Outreach College for over ten years.  King is the choir and bell director at Casas Adobes Congregational Church.

Jackson, tenor, is a senior music student at the University of Arizona studying piano and choral music education.  He has over 15 years of experience singing in choral ensembles and over ten years of experience teaching in private and classroom settings.

 
Ng, counter-tenor and tenor, is the founder and conductor of The Arizona Choral Society, the founder and member of Cantores and Arcadia Chamber Artists and the former director of music at Catalina United Methodist Church in Tucson.  In 2007, Ng made his Carnegie Hall debut conducting Vivaldi's "Gloria" accompanied by the New England Symphonic Ensemble.  He is a professional lyric tenor and has appeared in various oratorios and operas throughout the states, Europe and Hong Kong. In 2008, Ng sang four operatic roles – Goro in Madama Butterfly, Monostatos, Priest and Armor Man in Die Zauberflote, at the Magnani Opera Theater, Fidenza and Verdi Theater in Busseto, Italy.  He is the vocal music faculty directing the Chorale and College Singers and teaching studio voice at Pima Community College.

Snook is originally from Napa, California and has performed in 46 states and 13 countries. He isa professional singer/actor and appeared in many shows in New York City including Forever Plaid and Altar Boyz. While in New York, Snook was a member of the jazz a cappella group Pieces of 8 and recorded 2 albums. He sings with Lonely Street Productions, AZ Backbeat Productions, The Presidio Boys and the Monsoons. Snook returned to the stage to perform the role of Enjolras in the Arizona Onstage Production of Les Misèrables. He teaches choir and theatre at Flowing Wells Jr. High School.
